YELLOW LEVEL - January 15th, 2024

IMPORTANT Inclement Weather Info for Parents/Guardians of Wheatland Elementary School

January 15th, 2024 - *Yellow Level – Due to severe weather and travel conditions, no buses are running.  School is open but regular classes are not being offered. We encourage parents and students to stay home and avoid the risks of travel.

WES BAS Program (Before & After School Care) is closed for tomorrow, January 15th, 2024.

Every reasonable effort is to be made to hold school on the days stipulated in the annual school calendar. When the weather poses a significant safety concern for the welfare of students, bus route service may be cancelled and/or schools may be closed. GHSD supports the decision of parents who choose not to send their children to school, or to ride a school bus, because of safety concerns during severe weather.

For reference, there are three possible options for school status within GHSD:

  • Green Level – Due to weather and travel conditions, some buses may not be running.  School is open and regular classes will be offered
  • *Yellow Level – Due to severe weather and travel conditions, no buses are running.  School is open but regular classes are not being offered. We encourage parents and students to stay home and avoid the risks of travel.
  • *Red Level – Due to the severe weather and travel conditions the school is closed. Do not send students to school. Due to the severe weather we are unable to ensure the school doors will be unlocked, or any staff will be in the building.

*Both Yellow and Red status require the approval of the Superintendent.

Further details around the GHSD guidelines for these types of events can be found in AP 131 and AP 131 FAQ, on the GHSD website.

The extreme cold weather forecast looks to improve this week. Families are reminded that extra caution should be taken during periods of extreme weather.

We respect the right of parents/guardians to make their own decisions about sending their children to school.  If your child will not be attending classes, please ensure you contact the school office (403) 934-3318 to report their absence.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this winter weather event.  Please contact Mrs. Van Vliet (amy.vanvliet@ghsd75.ca) or Mrs. Garrioch (emily.garrioch@ghsd75.ca) if you have any questions or concerns.
