Accelerated Reading Program

The Accelerated Reading Program is an innovative computerized reading program that monitors how well a child understands what he/she has read. A child earns points based on the reading level of the book and how well they did on the test. Once students reach certain point levels they receive prizes for their efforts and are recognized at our monthly school assemblies.

How it works:

1. Your son/daughter chooses a library book.
2. They can read the book themselves, with a buddy or have it read to them.
3. They then take a test on the book on one of the school computers.The questions check to see how well the child understood the book. They then get a printed report that tells them how well they did on the test.
4. They show their homeroom teacher their report and then take it home to show you.

Benefits of Accelerated Reading:

• Increases self esteem through immediate positive feedback and through school wide recognition.

Every student in Wheatland Elementary Grade 1-6 has the opportunity to take part in this program. Please ask your child about his/her participation in this program and encourage them to take part!
