On Monday, November 28th, Wheatland Elementary School hosted its 10th annual Grade 6 Interschool Volleyball Tournament which involved 12 teams from 5 local elementary schools. Students from Wheatland, Westmount, Brentwood, Trinity Christian Academy and Carseland all converged on the Wheatland Elementary School gymnasium from 2:30-5:00pm for a fantastic opportunity to play the wonderful sport of volleyball. The gym was filled to the bursting with players, families, coaches, friends, community members, and even Wheatland Elementary’s brand new mascot, Wakapa the Wildcat! Medals were awarded to the top three teams: Wheatland Red, Westmount #3 and Trinity #2, but more importantly, these young players, aged only 10-12 years old, demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and excellent foundational skills in a friendly tournament that has become an annual tradition eagerly anticipated by local grade six students. A big thank you also to the grade 9 Senior boys volleyball team members from Crowther Memorial who provided coaching and refereeing support, as well as the additional students from Wheatland Elementary who did scorekeeping and timeclock duties for the tournament. What an all-round outstanding demonstration of young leadership, sportsmanship and athleticism! Way to go!
